Fonda and Woodward are in fine form in this sly western comedy. Fonda plays an ex-gambler who arrives with his wife (Woodward) in the town of Laredo just as the big card tournament begins. He enters the game, and gets the hand of a lifetime. Only before he can finish the hand, he suffers a heart attack. When his wife takes his place, the now-penniless woman has some fancy talking to do to stay in the game. And ya gotta love that surprise ending.
