Fonda and Woodward are in fine form in this sly western comedy. Fonda plays an ex-gambler who arrives with his wife (Woodward) in the town of Laredo just as the big card tournament begins. When his wife takes his place, the now-penniless woman has some fancy talking to do to stay in the game.
